While HI induced a marked increase in apoptosis at P12, sildenafil treatment attenuated this response. Together, these results support both a neuroprotective and neurorestorative role for sildenafil, in agreement with prior studies demonstrating its ability to reduce apoptosis in neurons and oligodendrocytes22,78,79,80,81,82,83.
